How to Migrate MySQL Database to Microsoft SQL Server

MySQL, the most popular Open Source SQL database management system, is developed, distributed, and supported by Oracle Corporation.

The SQL part of “MySQL” stands for “Structured Query Language”. SQL is the most common standardized language used to access databases. Depending on your programming environment, you might enter SQL directly (for example, to generate reports), embed SQL statements into code written in another language, or use a language-specific API that hides the SQL syntax.

A database is a structured collection of data. It may be anything from a simple shopping list to a picture gallery or the vast amounts of information in a corporate network. Microsoft SQL Server is a relational database management system developed by Microsoft. As a database server, it is a software product with the primary function of storing and retrieving data as requested by other software applications—which may run either on the same computer or on another computer across a network (including the Internet). Microsoft markets at least a dozen different editions of Microsoft SQL Server, aimed at different audiences and for workloads ranging from small single-machine applications to large Internet-facing applications with many concurrent users.

Database migration is the process of migrating data from one or more source databases to one or more target databases by using a database migration service. When a migration is finished, the datasets in the source databases resides fully, though possibly restructured, in the target databases.

In this course you will learn how to migrate a database from MySQL into Microsoft SQL Server using SQL Server Migration Assistant for MySQL (SSMA). The migration will involve schema and data migration.
